Victorian figural silver-plated napkin ring holder made by the Wilcox Silver Co.:
$200.00

A magnificent, authentic 19th-century Victorian figural napkin ring holder crafted by the renowned Wilcox Silver Plate Co. (Meriden, Conn.). This scarce model features a beautifully cast three-dimensional winged cherub standing alongside a napkin ring that is intricately adorned with a high-relief bird resting on a nest filled with eggs. The rectangular pedestal base contains two standard circular cutouts originally intended for small glass master salts or pepper cellars. The underside is fully signed with the Wilcox Silver Plate Co. circular hallmark, stamped "Quadruple Plate," and marked with design number 01551. The piece remains in excellent antique condition with no structural breaks, cracks, or repairs. It exhibits a wonderful, rich dark unpolished patina that emphasizes the excellent depth of the original sculptural casting. Please review all high-resolution photos for exact condition details. The Maker & Markings: The bottom clearly features the circular stamp for the Wilcox Silver Plate Co.. It is stamped "Quadruple Plate," which means it was plated with four times the standard amount of pure silver over a base white metal for increased durability. This specific design features a winged cherub (putto) standing on a rectangular pedestal base next to a detached napkin ring. The napkin ring itself is adorned with a highly detailed, relief-molded bird tending to a nest with eggs. The base features two circular cutouts, which historically served as inserts for glass salt cellars or small condiment holders, making it a combination breakfast or table caster set.
