Valencia PA RPPC Kingsley Summer Home Fresh Air Camp Antique Postcard 1910 For Sale

Antique RPPC – Kingsley Summer Home, Valencia, Pennsylvania
Real photo view of the Kingsley Summer Home, captioned in the negative. The long frame building has a deep porch running across the front, rows of windows, dormers, and a central gabled section topped by a flagpole, set in an open field with bare trees behind. The Kingsley Association, a Pittsburgh settlement house serving immigrant families, operated the Lillian Taylor Farm Camp in Valencia as a \"Fresh Air Farm.\" The camp began in 1902 on land donated by industrialist Charles L. Taylor so that women and children from the city could enjoy the country, and Taylor deeded the property to the Kingsley Association in 1907. Mailed with a green one-cent Franklin stamp, with the message dated August 30, 1910, and addressed to Pittsburgh. A great piece for collectors of Valencia and Butler County, Pennsylvania topographical postcards, Pittsburgh settlement house history, or fresh air camp and social reform history.
