Vintage German Hand-Carved & Hand-Painted Wax Relief Eternal Candle (Dauerkerze), produced during the 1960s-1980s by artisans at Johann Gunter Wachswarenfabrik in Walldürn-Baden, Germany.
This magnificent piece of old-world European folk art sits approximately 8.5" tall and 4" wide, , with an insert hole width of 1.5". It features an intricate, high-relief 3D sculpted scene depicting a traditional German gardener smoking a pipe by an architectural courtyard gate, surrounded by vibrant hand-painted floral growth and greenery.
The artistry is heavily reminiscent of the cozy, nostalgic 19th-century genre paintings by Romantic era artist Carl Spitzweg.
1. The structured wax top functions as a removable lid.
2. Inside, a reflective brass cone insert acts as a heat shield.
3. The hollow interior chamber houses a replaceable core fuel cartridge or spring-loaded mini candle.
When lit, the flame burns safely within the central column, entirely preserving the gorgeous hand-sculpted exterior wax artwork.
This candle is completely unlit, unused, and unburnt. There are absolutely no heat or soot marks on the brass ring.
The bottom features its original round blue/gold Johann Gunter factory foil seal ("Seit 1924"), a vintage price tag, and the original rectangular paper label reading: "Diese Kerze ist Geschmacksmuster geschützt" (legally design protected).
