Up for listing is this Vintage, Mid-Century modern, beautifully handcarved, Large, substantial, mid-sized decorative lidded canister, made of Acacia wood. 

This is a lovely, natural Carved Wood Statement piece that would Grace any home .

***Origin: This specific style of chip-carving—featuring a heavily darkened or black-lacquered exterior etched away to reveal the natural warm honey tones underneath—is highly characteristic of mid-century Haitian folk art.

***Material: It is traditionally hand-turned from tropical hardwoods indigenous to the Caribbean, most commonly used Acaia wood

(AKA= monkey pod wood.)

***Design Motifs: The patterns are a blend of tropical botanical elements and geometric grid work (seen on the central shield/leaf shape), hand-etched using an artistic process called "Sgraffito technique".

***Condition:  This vintage item is in good, sturdy condition with a beautiful natural patina. Please note there is a cosmetic surface crack called "checking", on the exterior, which is very common in large, solid tropical hardwood carvings as they age.

This is strictly a surface blemish and does not go through to the interior, meaning the canister remains completely solid, stable, and structurally sound.
