This exquisite Denbigh Blue and Gold Floral Teacup and Saucer by Grosvenor China England has the delicate translucence of fine porcelain. Made by Jackson & Gosling LTD, Grosvenor Works, Longton, Staffordshire Potteries, this lovely teacup and saucer set features multicolor floral bouquets framed by striking sky-blue panels around the rims. The blue sections are covered with tiny darker blue crosses and outlined with lavish and swirling gold-colored scrolls. Each panel forms a cartouche framing a multicolor floral arrangement dominated by a pink rose. Shades of blue, pink, yellow, and green form the accent flowers and foliage, and the center of each piece has a matching floral bouquet. The outside of the cup decorated with hand painted flowers but this particular cup number is an earlier pattern than the ones with a gold circle making it a more rare and older cup. The cup and the saucer are scalloped with a gilded edge, and there is also gold trimming the handle and the foot of the cup.
The teacup measures 2-1/2 inches tall and almost 4 inches in diameter across the scalloped rim, with another inch for the handle. It stands on a 1-7/8 inch diameter foot. The matching saucer is 5-3/4 inches in diameter.
The back of each piece is stamped with brown block letters “Grosvenor Bone China England.”
The pattern may be an early Denbigh or Balmoral but not marked. The other marks used by Jackson & Gosling circa the 1920s or 30s. The pattern number is A936, written by hand on the cup. The saucer omits the words “Made in” and the pattern number. There is also an “H” and the II mark on the cup. The plate only has the “H” and two gold specs beside the name.
This set has been treated with loving care. Only condition issue I found was a tinge of coloring in the bottom of the tea cup (which means it was used for tea for a period of time). This tends to come clean with white vinegar, baking soda and Dawn dish soap soaking for a period of time.
The cup and saucer sit on an ornate brass stand made in occupied Japan. It has a couple of hooks that serve as a spoon holder. Too adorable! It is included in the purchase.
