DESCRIPTION
A charming pair of vintage 1970s Chapman Chinoiserie terra cotta figural statues depicting an Asian gentleman and lady in traditional dress.
These sculptural figures are richly detailed and finished in a warm terra cotta tone with beautiful texture and character throughout. The gentleman carries a lantern and bird, while the lady is posed gracefully with hands raised as though originally intended to hold a slender flute or accessory.
Both figures retain their original numbered markings on the underside (23/231) and are believed to have been produced by Chapman as decorative companion figures to their highly collectible Asian-inspired lighting and décor pieces.
Their scale makes them ideal for bookshelves, consoles, étagères, mantel displays, or layered Chinoiserie and traditional interiors.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition. The female figure has had a small repair to one pigtail/hair detail. The repair is stable and difficult to notice during display. Minor age-appropriate wear consistent with vintage decorative objects.
