VINTAGE LIGGETT'S DRUG STORE SODA FOUNTAIN LUNCH COUNTER ICED TEA SPOON REXALL For Sale

Vintage long-handled spoon marked LIGGETT'S on the handle, back marked NATIONAL SECTIONAL 5 OZ., 8" overall length with hammered surface along the handle. Technically an iced tea spoon, this was more likely used for ice cream sodas and sundaes at the soda fountain lunch counter inside of Liggett's Drug Store. Liggett's was a national company that got its start in 1902 when a Boston entrepreneur, Louis Liggett, persuaded 40 independent drug stores to invest $4,000 each in a retailers cooperative called United Drug Stores. The organization sold patent medicines, spices, cosmetics, toiletries and pharmaceutical products under the moniker of "Rexall," which was derived from the abbreviation for prescription or "Rx.". Spoon has some plating wear on the front and back of the bowl.
