Up for sale is a truly unique, one-of-a-kind piece of altered vintage pop-culture folk art!
This figurine starts with a classic 1920s/1930s mold of the famous British cartoon pup, Bonzo the Dog, complete with his signature chubby cheeks and tilted derby hat. It was originally manufactured in tje 1950s as an unpainted regional roadside pottery souvenir from Clinton, Arkansas.
The Hat features a crisp, authentic vintage ink stamp that reads:
SOUVENIR OF CLINTON, ARK.
Where the Ozarks meet the South
J. B. MONROE
At some point in its history, a creative previous owner reinterpreted this classic bulldog mold into a festive, creepy-cute clown! They custom hand-painted the figure with striking red ringed eyes, a stitched smile, and hand-lettered the name BOZO across his chest—likely a nod to the peak era of Bozo the Clown television fame.
Whether you collect vintage Ozark Americana, George Studdy's Bonzo memorabilia, circus/clown oddities, or unique altered folk art, this standout conversational piece will make an incredible addition to your shelf.
