Utica 818 Large Hog Ring Pliers Right-Over-Left Probably Early 1940s: $25.00
Often, determining a period when tools were produced is hindered because of inconsistencies in marking. We know that “Utica Drop Forge & Tool Corp.” and “U.D.F.&T.” were stamped into tools until mid-1940s (see images). Model Numbers were consistently added to tools in early 1920s (see images). In the 1939 Utica Catalog there was no Model Number on the No. 20816 Hog Ring Pliers and the tool was stamped with the “3-Diamonds”. By 1956 branding had been simplified to “Utica Tools" the above mean? Less than most want to know. Our best guess on time of manufacturing is early 1940s and, perhaps, limited to a one or two transitional years for which catalogs are not available. It’s well used, but still, fully functional. There’s a little looseness in the Pivot. There’s no obvious evidence of abuse or misuse. There are three lines added to one handle by a previous owner (see images). The Pliers are probably Right-Prong-Over-Left-Prong as there is not a letter “L” in the Model Number. We like the well-used patina of the Pliers, but they also ought to clean up adequately to display as part of a Show-and-Tell. They’d also do the job if needed for some Period-Piece Trim work on your restoration. We will ship the Pliers by USPS Ground Advantage on the next regular business day following receipt of payment.
