Rare Orthodox Icon of Elder Grigory Rasputin & Tsarevich Alexei Romanov | 12x15 cm (5”x6”) Wooden Icon for Private Veneration

🕊 A Unique Modern Icon Honoring Spiritual Friendship and Martyrdom

This unusual and deeply symbolic Orthodox icon portrays Elder Grigory Yefimovich Rasputin and Tsarevich Alexei Romanov—a rare depiction rooted in a private vision and blessed by the revered elder Nikolai Guryanov. The original image was created by iconographer Sergey Arsenyev (Monk Grigory) following a powerful spiritual experience on Zalita Island.

Painted with reverence and guided by divine vision, the icon serves as a testimony to faith, intercession, and the spiritual bond between Rasputin and the Romanov family.

🔸 About the Icon:

• Grigory Rasputin is depicted in black monastic attire with a klobuk and visible cross, holding a golden cross and a lit candle—symbols of prayerful sacrifice and divine illumination.

• Tsarevich Alexei appears as a holy child with a small cross in his hand, representing innocence and unwavering faith in the face of suffering.

• Golden halos surround both figures, symbolizing their veneration and spiritual legacy.

• Inscriptions read:
  • “Holy Great Martyr Grigory”
  • “Holy Great Martyr Tsarevich Alexei”

Though Grigory Rasputin has not been officially canonized, this icon reflects a movement of private veneration and worldwide repentance for the innocent and misunderstood figures of Russian history.

📖 Historical Context:

Grigory Rasputin played a pivotal role as a spiritual guide to the Romanov family during a time of national turmoil. Known for his healing prayers over the hemophiliac heir, Alexei, and his prophetic warnings to Tsar Nicholas II, Rasputin was both revered and reviled. This icon captures his spiritual mission and bond with the young Tsarevich, who would later be glorified as a passion bearer by the Russian Orthodox Church.
