The original plastic piece is on the watch stem, protecting the stem and keeping the watch from running - when the stem is pulled out as it is now, that stops the watch function. The stem has never been pushed in so it's possible the battery still has a charge when you push the stem in, although tbh it probably needs have the battery replaced.
