This sale is for a NUMBERED USS HONOLULU SSN-718 SUBMARINE INSIGNIA / BADGE - ANTIQUE SILVER 3D (NUMBERED) - REGULATION SIZE (3"). This is a Novelty submarine badge I designed and had made by VANGUARD. I have designed numerous submarine badges from submarines I served on while I was in the U.S. Navy. I am a retired Radioman Chief Petty Officer (RMC/SS USN RETIRED). This badge has things that would mean something to a sailor who served on this boat. The USS HONOLULU SSN-718 is a 688 Class First Flight Submarine. It has the approximate dimensions of an official U.S. Navy Submarine Insignia (a little larger at 3"). This is an unofficial NOVELTY version of the submarine insignia.There is the following on the backside: "USS HONOLULU SSN-718", "Dert with an English Style "D" (My Hallmark)", & Numbering (there were only 25 of these (Antique Silver "3D") badges made - they are numbered from 1 of 25 to 25 of 25) The badge in the photos is numbered 25 of 25 but you might receive any number of the 25. SSN-718 is the hull number of the Honolulu. The badge was made by the same company that makes submarine insignia for the U.S. Navy (VANGUARD). It has two clutch post pins on the back for attachments. It is not authorized to be worn on active duty Naval personnel uniforms. It is also one of the last 688 Class submarines that has Sail Planes.
The "3D" version does not have all the colors of the 3D/UV versions.
