The 4252nd Strategic Wing was a United States Air Force unit that was activated in 1958 and served until it was inactivated in 1966. The wing was part of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and was responsible for operating and maintaining B-52 Stratofortress bombers and KC-135 Stratotanker aerial refueling aircraft.
The 4252nd Strategic Wing was based at the Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan and was composed of several subordinate units, including the 904th and 913th Air Refueling Squadrons (AREFS). These units were responsible for providing aerial refueling support to the B-52 bombers, which allowed them to remain airborne for extended periods of time and travel long distances without having to land.
The 904th and 913th AREFS were equipped with KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft and were responsible for conducting mid-air refueling operations with the B-52 bombers. This allowed the bombers to stay in the air for extended periods of time, allowing them to travel long distances and conduct strategic bombing missions.
During its time in service, the 4252nd Strategic Wing played an important role in the United States\' strategic defense posture during the Cold War. The wing\'s B-52 bombers were capable of carrying nuclear weapons and were prepared to launch a retaliatory strike against the Soviet Union in the event of a nuclear attack on the United States.
