Two Rare Western Pacific Railroad Original California Zephyr posters were found. These two posters measures 37 x 23 and the smaller one 21 x 18. Both posters in mint condition. Very limited stock so order your posters now. Once these are gone they will not be available ever again.These large wall posters were used to Promote the original California Zephyr passenger train and was sent to all of the Western Pacific Railroad Stations where this famous train made stops. The station were: Oakland, Fremont, Pleasanton, Stockton, Sacramento, Marysville, Oroville, Keddie, Portola, Gerlach, Winnemucca, Elko, Wendover and Salt Lake City. Additionally these posters were sent to many travel agencies and the two other railroads that ran the California Zephyr.The California Zephyr was considered the most popular passenger train in the USA. It ran between Chicago, Illinois and Oakland, California on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, Denver & Rio Grande Western and Western Pacific railroads of which all dubbed it "The Most Talked About Train in America". On March 20, 1949 this brand new train went into service between Chicago and Oakland. On March 21, 1970 the California Zephyr made her last run.These two posters were produced by the Western Pacific Railroad in 1950 according to company public relation records from the railroad headquarters in San Francisco, California. After the posters were delivered to the railroad from the printers in 1950 copies of them were sent to all passenger stations on all three railroads and many travel agents. Once the distributions were complete the remaining stock was stored in the basement of the railroad headquarters at 526 Mission Street San Francisco and forgotten.Fast forward to the year 1983 when the Union Pacific Railroad purchased the Western Pacific. The offices of the old WP in San Francisco were ordered closed by the Union Pacific. As the building was being prepared to sell by the Union Pacific Railroad the former WP public relations manager gained access to the basement and found these remaining CZ posters. He stored these remaining posters in his apartment in San Francisco until he passed away in 2024. Upon cleaning out his apartment the posters were found and given to Chris Skow, a retired Western Pacific Railroad Conductor. Chris Skow arranged to have Swann sale Galleries in New York try to sell these two posters. To the surprise of everyone including the folks at Swann Galleries these two posters were saleed off for $2,000.
