CGC Universal 9.8 — White Pages
Cert #3860858001
Olivia DeBerardinis painted cover
Top-grade copy of the first issue of Innovation’s revival of Bill Ward’s classic blonde bombshell, Torchy Todd. Famous painted cover by Olivia DeBerardinis (signed “Olivia” on the art): Torchy in sheer pink stockings, opera gloves, beret and stilettos, bent over a wooden stool, looking back over her shoulder. Cover price $2.50 U.S. / $2.95 Can. Marked “Not intended for children.”
What’s inside
Reprints of Bill Ward’s 1940s Quality Comics Torchy good-girl humor strips, plus an introduction, “Re-introducing Torchy Todd, the Blonde Bombshell.” Stories include classic Torchy gags (reunion, babysitter, model gig, and more). Black-and-white interiors. Edited by David Campiti.
Torchy Todd is one of the signature “good girl” characters of the Golden Age — tall blonde, barely-there outfits, screwball plots. Ward later became well known for Playboy and men’s-magazine illustration. This Innovation series is the main 1990s reprint vehicle for those stories, and #1 is the key issue because of the Olivia cover.
