 This at least 148 year old Ginger jar is in Excellent Condition with No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Very nice Tongzhi Chinese Porcelain Ginger Jar. A beautiful early 19th. Century Chinoiserie oviod ginger jar that is hand decorated with rich under glaze enamels. The round body has a continuous 'peach tree and fruit' theme that continues through to the lid, the pattern is uninterrupted which indicates the care taken with this piece. White background with green foliage, peaches and topped with a finial. Free-style spurious red hand painted four character reign mark on underside 'indicating' this was made 1861-1875, Tongzhi reign (1861–1875) of the Qing dynasty.

The sacred tree of immortality is a peach tree. In Chinese Taoist mythology, the peach of immortality grew in the gardens of Hsi wang mu (Chinese: 西王母; pinyin: Xīwángmǔ; “Queen Mother of the West”). When the fruit ripened every 3,000 years, this was celebrated by a sumptuous banquet attended by the “Eight Immortals”.

This measures 7 3/4" High x 7" Wide at the widest spot x 3 3/4" top opening Wide rim to rim. I have provided a lot of pictures to best describe the condition of this Jar.
