Ritual Purpose: Traditionally, these vessels are filled with clarified yak butter (or modern vegetable ghee) and a cotton wick to burn as a light offering. In Buddhist practice, the light symbolizes the clarity of wisdom dispelling the darkness of ignorance
The Wick Hole: The opening at the very center is where the woven cotton wick would be fed through from the pedestal stem to float in the liquid butter pool. Has a great interior texture, with authentic wax residue.

Condition Note: This piece is being sold exactly as found. It features a deep, beautiful, naturally aged dark patina that has developed over decades. The interior bowl still retains the original hardened ghee/yak-butter wax residue and faint carbon soot from its active use on an altar. It has intentionally not been cleaned or polished to preserve its historical integrity, spiritual character.
The Paper Tag : The red-bordered inventory sticker on the base indicates this piece passed through an estate collection, gallery, or customs checkpoint mid-century.
