My take on The Fool tarot card — a lone traveler heading out into the world with everything needed strapped to their back, a faithful little dog alongside, and no particular interest in knowing exactly where the road leads.
What does The Fool tarot card mean?
The Fool is the card of new beginnings, freedom, innocence, possibility and taking a leap of faith. It’s numbered 0, the beginning of the journey — leaving some baggage behind, trusting yourself and heading toward whatever comes next.
Which, when you think about it, is not a bad way to go through life.
And despite the name, The Fool isn’t really about being foolish. It’s more about being willing to start something when you don’t have every damn thing figured out first.
Across the bottom of the artwork:
INNOCENCE • NEW BEGINNINGS • FREEDOM
The old tarot-card style works especially well with the rolling green hills, blazing sun, worn trail and overloaded backpack. There are little details everywhere — the walking stick, white rose, the dog waiting patiently, and enough gear strapped to that pack to suggest this particular new beginning may last awhile.
The faded turquoise, orange, cream and grassy greens in the artwork look great against the neon green and glossy black crackle glaze, giving the whole piece a strange mix of old tarot card and slightly radioactive ceramic.
Bright yellow green crackle glaze carries the landscape’s warmth around the body and neck. Fine black lines gather into intricate patterns, framed by glossy black at the mouth, shoulder and base. It’s a lively finish that suits a card about possibility.
A one of a kind handmade ceramic tarot bong, made here in the Berkshire Hills by The Berkshire Bong Company. For anyone starting a new chapter, or simply drawn to the view.
The inside is finished with a black, food safe ceramic glaze to make it completely watertight.
