Rate sheet with map of ski runs, ski touring, lift rates, ski school, accommodations and packages. Downhill daily rate was $8.50.

Founded in 1947 by Tony Wise near Cable, Wisconsin, Telemark Resort grew from a modest rope-tow ski hill into a legendary Northwoods resort. It featured a famous $4 million star-shaped lodge built in 1972, hosted the first American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race in 1973, and later underwent demolition in 2021.
The Golden Years (1947–1980s)

• Early Beginnings: Tony Wise and H.B. Hewitt opened the hill with two rope tows and a small chalet after discovering skiing in Bavaria following World War II.
• Expansions: The site added T-bar lifts, a private airstrip for flying skiers, and a vibrant nightlife scene through the 1950s and 1960s.
• The Grand Lodge: Architect Herb Fritz (a student of Frank Lloyd Wright) designed the iconic 1972 main lodge featuring a massive 55-foot stone fireplace.
• Famous Culinary Roots: Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse famously served as a resident chef at the lodge from 1978 to 1980.
• The Birkie Epicenter: The resort became the spiritual and physical home of the American Birkebeiner, North America's largest cross-country ski marathon.
