THE 1915 MODEPANAMA PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITIONGazette du Bon Ton~~~
The Mode 1915, As Shown by Paris. Special Panama Pacific International Exposition Edition. Cover by Georges Lepape.
This special edition was a collaboration of Lucien Vogel of Gazette du Bon Ton and Conde Nast of Vogue. It was at a time during WWI when the Gazette du Bon Ton was ceasing publication, but together Vogel and Nast presented this American version of the publication translated from French to English and featuring illustration as fine art. The collaboration was timed with the advent of the Panama Pacific International Exposition where the designers displayed their fashions. The pochoirs in this issue are the same as the 1915 war issue of GBT, both using the same hand colored, hand stenciled illustrations. Plates are in folio format, the same as GBT, which allowed them to be removed from the issue to display separately. Nast included photos of American socialites and advertisements from American companies. The advertising plates are particularly rare as they are not included in the GBT issues and only this single issue published for the Panama Pacific international Exhibition. Both issues include inter-textual illustrations on most pages.
This is a rare and coveted publication, found primarily in university libraries and museums. It has been a prized possession in our collection for over 40 years.
