Topdog Presents: Always interesting stuff!

Offered here is an original 8 x 10 inch black-and-white Columbia Pictures publicity still of the British comic actor Terry-Thomas. It was issued for the Boulting Brothers comedy I'm All Right Jack, starring Peter Sellers and co-starring Ian Carmichael and Terry-Thomas. The photo is signed boldly in red ink across the lapel of his jacket, with the date "1962" written below the signature.

Terry-Thomas (1911–1990) became one of the best-loved British comic actors of the postwar era. With his gap-toothed grin, cigarette holder and plummy voice, he made a career of playing cads and bounders. In I'm All Right Jack (1959), the Boultings' satire of British management and trade unions, he plays the exasperated personnel manager Major Hitchcock, opposite Peter Sellers's famous shop steward Fred Kite. Terry-Thomas soon became an international star, appearing in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (1965), and many other films. This portrait shows him at his most characteristic, with the famous tooth gap on full display.

The photograph is a period Columbia Pictures still, with the studio's copyright and reproduction notice in the lower left margin. The film credit runs along the bottom, and the still code "NY 23" is in the lower right. The red ink signature and date are bold and clear. The photo shows age and handling wear. The top margin has chipping, paper loss and small tears along its edge. A diagonal crease or crack runs through the upper left corner into the dark background. There are a few surface scratches and specks in the upper portion of the image. The photo has a slight curl. None of the flaws reach the face or the signature. It is sold as found, and no certificate of authenticity is included.

Please see the photos, they are part of the description.
