This elegant Asian curio or snuff bottle display cabinet ishand-carved from solid Rosewood with a striking oriental motif.
It has a glass front door framed in Rosewood, a mirror back, and 23 shelves. It stands 32-1/2 inches tall, the width is 19 inches, and the depth is 4 inches. The construction technique is dove-tail joints on all 4 corners and the base. The back is attached using brass screws.
It was certainly made in the orient, but it was not marked by the manufacturer.
Rosewood is a very dense wood with a beautiful grain and is very heavy. This cabinet is an impressive 27 lbs.
It was certainly made in the orient, but it is not marked. All hardware is solid brass and there is a key escutcheon on the side, but the original key has been lost to time. I was able however, to locate a replacement key in my key collection that does work, but it is not the original. (see the last photo of the replacement key)
There are no scratches, or chips, but there are a few small indentations from handling, despite the considerable age.I have owned this for about 25 years, and it was probably made near the turn of the century making it near 75 years old.
