Crook County Oregon Petrified Wood – Hampton Butte Area – 3 lb 13.2 oz
Beautiful, exceptionally dense petrified wood specimen from Crook County, Oregon, in the Hampton Butte area of Central Oregon.
This substantial piece features remarkably preserved wood grain, with long, flowing bands of golden amber, honey yellow, warm caramel, and deep chocolate brown. The natural mineralization creates a striking combination of earthy colors, intricate textures, and areas of glossy, almost glass-like translucency.
One of the most appealing features is the exceptionally well-defined longitudinal grain. Fine parallel lines, raised ridges, and layered structures follow the length of the specimen, retaining much of the visual character of the original wood.
The ends reveal contrasting mineralization, including creamy yellow-green chalcedony-like areas with delicate natural fracture patterns. Several surfaces exhibit a beautiful waxy luster when wet, highlighting the depth and variation of the preserved structure.
