Piece is a vintage Steuben Ivrene White Pearl Iridescent Ruffled Glass Vase/Bowl. An authentic Steuben Ivrene ruffled art glass vase like this was manufactured between 1920 and 1932. This medium-sized vase features a ruffled pattern, intricate hand-blown glassmaking technique, and a pearl iridescent finish. Hand signed base mark with engraving pencil. “Steuben”. See pictures. ( used crayon to darken etching; will rub off with mild soap)
HISTORY: Bottom of vase/bowl shows a pontil rod mark that was detached from a heavy piece, it often leaves a deep, jagged chunk of glass behind. Steuben\'s master cutters spent a significant amount of time at the grinding wheel to completely smooth out that deep scar. This results in a noticeably deep, dish-shaped concave socket.
Carder intentionally designed the bases of these ruffled bowls to be incredibly thick and heavy. This extra glass thickness allows for a deep, 50% indentation while still leaving plenty of structural glass underneath so the bottom remains perfectly strong and balanced.
NOTE: There is a small chip on bottom of flute. Hardly noticeable. (see last picture) Otherwise great condition.
