$45.00

I am pleased to offer this impressive specimen of Spondylus americanus Hermann, 1781, a spectacular thorny oyster collected by scuba diving off Panama City Beach, Florida. This specimen displays a remarkable array of long, well-developed spines and beautiful natural coloration, making it an outstanding display piece for collectors of unusual bivalves.

The upper valve is heavily adorned with numerous elongated spines, ranging from delicate branching projections to thick, robust processes. The lower valve exhibits attractive pink, cream, and orange tones, highlighted by a vivid orange hinge area that creates exceptional contrast. The specimen presents beautifully both open and closed, showcasing the dramatic architecture that has made Spondylus species favorites among collectors worldwide.

An impressive display specimen with exceptional spine development and attractive natural coloration. Numerous long spines remain intact, creating a dramatic appearance rarely seen in specimens of this size.

As expected with a heavily ornamented thorny oyster, several spine tips show minor natural breakage and wear. A repaired crack is present near the hinge area and can be seen in the photographs. The specimen remains structurally stable and displays beautifully from all angles. The vibrant orange hinge coloration, extensive spine coverage, and overall visual impact make this a highly desirable collector specimen.
