For sale is an exceptional, authentic piece of Mexican polychrome clay art (barro policromado) handcrafted by the late master artisan Elfego Vázquez Piedra in August 2011. This stunning freestanding sculpture originates from Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla—Mexico’s world-renowned epicenter for traditional, vibrant ceramic mastery.
Titled "Tochtli Xiuhtecuhtli", the sculpture features an incredible level of dense, intricate detail. A beautifully textured green cactus base blooms with vibrant orange flowers and is completely teeming with meticulously hand-sculpted, wire-mounted desert life. Visible from every angle are hand-painted butterflies, a caterpillar, an ant chain, a lizard, a ladybug, and other small creatures.
The bottom is fully inscribed and signed by the master artisan: "Tochtli Xiuhtecuhtli" Izucar Pue. Mexico, Elfego Vázquez Piedra, Agosto 2011.
