A vibrant hand-built folk art sculpture by Concepción Aguilar of the renowned Aguilar family ceramics dynasty, Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca, Mexico. This Noah’s Ark-style piece is covered in an appliquéd menagerie — spotted dogs, a giraffe, elephants, big cats, and beaded red “eye” trim — surrounding a central sun and moon face. Signed and inscribed on the underside “Concepcion Aguilar — To Franke.”
The Aguilar family has produced internationally recognized Oaxacan folk pottery for generations, with work held in museum and private collections.
Condition: Some losses among the appliquéd elements — missing several of the beaded “eyes” along the trim and a few of the small bug figures. A few minor chips elsewhere, but the piece is overall intact and stable. Losses noted are typical for this fragile, hand-built appliqué style. Please review photos closely.
