🎨 About the Art, Theme, and Artist
  • The Artistic Technique:True Palekh miniatures are not painted on wood; they are built from layers of premium papier-mâché compressed and soaked in linseed oil. The surfaces are treated with a mix of clay, soot, and oil before receiving multiple base and finish coats of lacquer. Palekh artists utilize extremely fine squirrel-hair brushes (sometimes down to a single hair) to execute these miniatures under magnification.
  • The Artist (S. Pavlova):The piece is hand-signed byS. Pavlova, a registered miniaturist trained under the strict tradition of the Palekh Art School. Palekh techniques historically evolved from 17th-century Orthodox icon painting. After the Russian Revolution, these master iconographers transitioned their divine, glowing styles and fine line work into illustrating secular folk tales and classical literature.
  • The Story:In Pushkin\'s tale, the beautiful princess Lyudmila is abducted from her wedding feast by the sorcerer Chernomor. While trapped in his magical palace gardens, she remains defiant, refusing to submit to his spells while her heroic knight, Ruslan, braves numerous hazards to rescue her.
