Hard-to-find originalWelch Guaranteed Motor Oil one-quart metal canfrom Illinois Oil Products Inc., Rock Island, Illinois. The artwork is marked©46.
This is areal survivor. The can remainsfull and unopenedand has never been restored or touched up. It shows plenty of honest age, including paint loss, scratches and surface wear, but that’s also part of what gives this can its character. Nothing has been done to disguise its nearly 80 years of history and it reads great from across the room.
The graphics are what stand out on this one. Bold yellow, black and green lithography surrounds the can, highlighted by the largeWELCHlettering, script“Guaranteed”logo and terrific period automobile illustration.
Welch quarts from this era arescarce and hard to find, particularly complete examples that remain full and unopened. It’s an unusual piece of early postwar petroliana that stands apart from the more commonly encountered major oil-company cans. A great can for your collection!
Full. Unopened. Unrestored. Scarce and hard to find. A genuine 1946 survivor with great period automobile graphics. Replacing a full can like this would not be easy.
Please review all photographs carefully for condition. The can is being offered exactly as shown.
