Sasieni Four Dot Ruff-Root Viscount Lascelles SX Estate Pipe London England
Vintage English Sasieni briar smoking pipe from the Four Dot line, featuring the distinctive Ruff-Root rusticated finish. This example is stamped VISCOUNT LASCELLES, Sasieni FOUR DOT, "RUFF-ROOT", LONDON MADE and MADE IN ENGLAND. It is additionally marked SX near the stem.
A handsome bent English pipe with a substantial rounded bowl, gently rising shank and curved black stem. The Ruff-Root treatment gives the briar a rugged textured surface while leaving the nomenclature area smooth. The contrasting dark and lighter brown finish highlights the texture particularly well.
Sasieni is one of the classic English pipe makers, and its Four Dot pipes have a strong following among collectors of traditional British briars. The Viscount Lascelles nomenclature and Ruff-Root finish make this an especially interesting identifiable example.
This pipe came from the estate of a longtime Chicago pipe enthusiast who carefully maintained his smoking collection. It remains unrestored and is being offered as found. The briar shows normal signs of age and use. The stem has substantial oxidation and discoloration, particularly around the bit, along with expected tooth and handling wear. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition.
