ABOUT THIS SANTA
The engine is a sculpture in its own right. A pointed cowcatcher with gold bars leads the way, and a large white snowflake shines on the round boiler door. The smokestack has a flared gold rim, the steam dome a gold band, and gold-framed panels with white snowflakes line the cab sides. Six wheels on each side carry gold rims, with a gold rod linking the big driving wheels. The gold pinstriping, those painted panels and the white snow dots across the whole engine take days of steady brushwork. Santa wears a red coat and trousers and a pointed cap with a pompom. White scrollwork and snowflakes cover the coat and cap, and frosted brown fur trims the cuffs, hem and boots. The long, low shape gives the piece a front and a back end, so it rides along a mantel, a shelf or a console table. It also makes a fine Christmas gift for a train lover or railroad enthusiast. Santa waves from his red steam engine as it chugs through the snow.
