George Shinn is a self-made millionaire from North Carolina. Living out a true rags to riches story, Mr. Shinn started from humble beginnings with his first job as a night time janitor at a business school in his hometown - the same business school he attended during the daytime to learn the basics of business. He went on to work as an admissions representative for the school and eventually purchased that school, a number of others, and started dozens of others. He was enormously successful in the proprietary school business: providing consulting services to other school owners. He developed a lucrative plan to maximize veteran enrollment in the wake of the Vietnam war by providing school terms which were accessible, class hours which were convenient, and services well suited to adult students.
This is the 1984 - 85 college catalog from one of those schools, Rutledge College in Charlotte, NC. It's in good condition, with light scuffing, spoting, and edge wear to the cover and occasional creases and ink marks inside.
Mr. Shinn went on to be a sports entrepreneur, having started the NBA's Charlotte Hornets franchise in the late 1980s as well as professional baseball and hockey teams. He sold his school group in the late 1980s to concentrate on sports endeavors. Today he's an active businessman and philanthropist, assisting many worthy non-profit organizations.
