The heavy gold gilt and age of the glaze make them unsuitable for modern dishwashers or microwaves. To preserve the \"Cabinet Grade\" finish, they should be hand-cleaned only with a soft, damp cloth.Q: Is the gold \"real\" gold?A: Yes, Rosenthal used high-karat gold leaf for their Elfenbein cream premium lines. This is why the scrolling has a deep, lustrous reflection compared to modern metallic paints.Q: Can I buy just one plate?A: At this time, we are keeping this exquisite set together to preserve its value.Q: Does the \"RC\" mark mean these are seconds?A: Not at all. The \"RC\" stands for Rosenthal China and was the specific mark used for their Kronach, Bavaria facility. It is a mark of high export quality from the 1901–1933 era.
