Authentic Rookwood Pottery “Palaimon” Boy Riding Dolphin Figural Statue

A remarkable, highly collectible art pottery sculpture produced by the historic Rookwood Pottery Company in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Historical Background & Provenance

This iconic piece depicts the mythological figure Palaimon (Melicertes), the patron god of sailors, riding a dolphin through cresting waves. The sculpture is a faithful modern studio reproduction of Rookwood’s famous early 20th-century architectural fountain. That legendary fountain spent decades installed in a Cincinnati establishment before being acquired and preserved by the Cincinnati Art Museum, where it remains a celebrated highlight of Cincinnati decorative art history. This edition was meticulously hand-sculpted and brought back to life by renowned Rookwood master sculptor Gary Simon.
