About Robin Welch (Master Potter) - (see image of his biography)Robin Welch was one of Britain\'s most respected ceramic artists.He was a studio potter and painter born in 1936 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England.He designed for Wedgwood, Midwinter Pottery, and Denby Pottery companies.Welch died in December 2019 at the age of 83 and his work can be seen at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England.

• He was one of a small group of significant potters who expanded the language of throwing (or shaping) pots on the wheel, in his case through post-wheel additions and alteration.This gave his generally cylindrical forms a more organic and sculptural aspect, but their heavily colored and textured surfaces were as much about painting, too, as Robin sought an integration of the visual disciplines he enjoyed.

• Robin always worked in a process of layering. He layered his colors to give depth; he often fired his pieces multiple times; and hand-built forms, altering individual pieces as he built.
