A fascinating medical-history commemorative medal dedicated to Robert Koch (1843–1910), one of the founders of modern bacteriology.
The obverse features a detailed profile portrait of Koch surrounded by his name and dates. The reverse displays a double-barred cross together with 24-3-1882, the date associated with Koch\'s landmark presentation identifying the tuberculosis bacterium. Koch\'s tuberculosis research later earned him the 1905 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
The medal has an attractive aged bronze-toned surface with natural patina and tonal variation. It would make an unusual addition to a collection of medical history, microbiology, scientific memorabilia, historical medals or Robert Koch material.
