OverviewThis impressive real photo postcard from the early 1920s shows the grand roadway crossing the Kensico Dam in Valhalla, New York. The photograph highlights the massive stone pylons that flank the road, showcasing the beautiful Beaux-Arts design of this monumental engineering project. The sender's enthusiastic message adds a wonderful personal touch from the dawn of the automobile age, proudly announcing, "We have a Ford car now, don't you like it?" This postcard is a fantastic blend of architectural grandeur and personal history.

Front of PostcardThe photograph shows the roadway that runs across the top of the Kensico Dam. The road curves between two pairs of massive, circular stone pylons that act as gatehouses. An early automobile, mentioned in the message as a Ford, is visible driving across the dam in the distance. The image captures the impressive scale and classical design of this major component of the New York City water supply system.
