"The Man Who Gunned Down Red Wolf!"Writer:Gardner Fox and Roy ThomasArtist:Syd Shores
  • A wealthy land-grabber named Alvah Bradley wants to take over Cheyenne sacred land (Pah Pana).
  • He plans to take the land to secure a water supply for his livestock.
  • He hires a gunhawk named Fast John Silver to kill Red Wolf (Johnny Wakely).
  • Silver ambushes Red Wolf and shoots him, believing he has completed the job.
  • The bullet hits Red Wolf’s medicine pouch, packed with iron and stone, stopping the bullet and saving his life.
  • Silver returns to Bradley to collect his payment and gets hired to oversee the forceful takeover of the sacred land.
  • Believing Red Wolf is dead, Wakely heads to Fort Rango as Johnny Wakely.
  • The Cheyenne are preparing to go on the warpath over the desecration of their fasting grounds.
  • Colonel Sabre asks "Johnny" to speak with Red Wolf to prevent a massacre.
  • Wakely changes into Red Wolf and meets with Cheyenne leader Long Spear.
  • Instead of open warfare, Red Wolf devises a clever plan.
  • During the night, he paints phosphorescent glowing shapes of men onto the trees of the disputed land.
  • This ghostly illusion terrifies Bradley's hired guns and Fast John Silver, driving them off without any loss of life.
