As per Ivo Rutishauser: Philadelphia & Reading, streamlined steam locomotive No. 118 with express train \'Crusader\'. The \'Crusader\' was a 5-car streamlined stainless steel train (Streamliner) with observation cars at each end. It ran twice a day from December 13, 1937 between Philadelphia and Jersey City, where there was a ferry connection to Manhattan, New York. The passenger train was built in 1937 by Budd in Philadelphia. For the traction of the train, two 4-6-2 (Pacific) steam locomotives of class G-1a (Nos. 117 + 118, built in 1918) were given a suitable streamlined fairing, mostly also made of (unpainted) stainless steel. In 1948, the steam locomotives on the Crusader were replaced by diesel locomotives. The streamlined trim was removed from the two Pacifics and they were discarded in 1950.
