Rare Porphory Mi'kmaq Ceremonial Pipe Great Lakes Region Garunteed...:
$375.00

This is an amazing artifact that holds a great place in the history books. Here is an authentic Early Mi'kmaq Smoking pipe, or Mic Mac Pipe.  Circa. Mic mac pipes date as early as the 1500s.

The Mi'kmaq people were the first humans Jacques Cartier, the French Explorer, ran into on his voyage up the ST. Lawrence River in 1534. Dozens of canoes approached his vessel, steered by the Mi'kmaqs. Cartier was startled, but the Mi'kmaqs came in peace. This marked the start of the Great French Fur Trade!

The pipe was recoevered in an Estate in Lake Villa, Illinois. However, that being said, Ive seen this identical style made of Steatite found near Cloquet, Minnesota! An intresting detail, to say the least. The French Fur Trade brought these pipes all over the Great Lakes Region.

I will be selling this one as a "Great Lakes Region Mi'kmaq Pipe." Some provenance has been lost over the centuries.

This one is quite unique as it is made of Porphory with mineral inclusions appearing as a green patch on the bowl of the pipe!

This pipe does have the presence of "Modern Stem Fitting"

Many historic Mi'kmaq pipes are found as "salvaged" pieces where the original organic stem rotted away long ago. When modern individuals try to retrofit the pipe with a new, reproduction reed stem, they often scrape, ream, or drill into the original socket to make the new stem fit. If the wood chosen is too hard or forced in too tightly, it creates modern stress fractures or fresh ring-wear around the opening.

The collector just tried to fit a new reed stem off to show of his pipe!

That being said, this  is a 100 percent authentic Mic Mac Pipe! Very unique to be Porphory!
