Offered for sale is a striking set of two original woodcut prints depicting the famous revolutionary figures Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin.
Both prints are clearly marked in German with “Original-Holzschnitt”, meaning “original woodcut”, and are signed by the artist “F.H. 39”, indicating a date of 1939.
The identity of the artist has not been established. Despite this, the prints are particularly interesting for their strong graphic design, fine craftsmanship and expressive portrait style. The quality of the woodcut technique and composition makes this an appealing pair for collectors of historical prints, political art, graphic design, or 20th-century European woodcuts.
Professional Framing
Both woodcuts have been professionally framed by a framing workshop in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The framing company was in business from 1976 to 2021, so the frames were made sometime during this period.
The frames are fitted with hangers on the back and have been securely closed. They are ready to hang and display.
