Rare Neuhofer & Sohn, Wien (Vienna, Austria) Precision Adjustable Dividers For Sale

A very unusual set of precision adjustable dividers or compasses made for precision work. They have a micro adjustment mechanism incorporated into the wing for a more precise adjustment than what is typically seen. The top half, including the wing, is made from brass except for the graduated disc which is steel. The legs are made from highly polished steel and the very sharp points made from steel. Stamped into the wing is “ Patent NEUHOFER & SOHN WIEN 5 “ . There is a brass pin wrench to adjust the pivot tension at the top. They are 150mm long and have a maximum opening of 80mm. They are in excellent condition, the brass has acquired a nice patina which would polish up but has been left untouched and the legs have a few very light rust marks. It comes in its original black case lined with somewhat faded blue velvet. Very rare item. Could have been used for navigation, drafting, or plotting, comparing, dividing, and measuring nautical maps.
