Rare Marion Shovel & Dredge Co. NOS early 1900's Company Letterhead Stationery:
$8.00

Hello Shovel collectors! This is a super rare original, never used, never folded, never marked early 20th century Marion Shovel and Dredge Co. letterhead stationery. These were used by the Marion Shovel and Dredge for only 2 years (see history below) for correspondence and other uses. This is NOT a copy, it is original and used only between 1910-1912.
These (I have 9 total) were collected by an expert in anything Shovel and are in pristine condition. Would look great framed and displayed with your other steam shovel memorabilia.8.5" x 11". Thicker than normal.
Not Marion Steam Shovel you say? Right - The name Marion Shovel and Dredge Co. only lasted 2 years. Read on for this companies fascinating history. Anything with The Marion Shovel and Dredge Co. is very rare.
In 1910,A.E. Cheney, the former head of sales for the Marion Steam Shovel Company, had a parting of the ways and quit. He knew of a company on the east coast that had made the first ever steam shovel but had gone out of business in 1899. Cheney and his financial backers acquired the rights to the Osgood Shovel Company and moved the machinery to Marion Ohio.
Cheney then did a bonehead move. He re-named this company "The Marion Shovel and Dredge Co." Sounds too much like the Marion Steam Shovel company don't you think?
Marion Steam Shovel thought so. In 1912 Marion Steam Shovel successfully sued Cheney's company for trademark infringement, and the company changed its name from Marion Steam Shovel and Dredge Company to Osgood Shovel Company, later shortened to the Osgood Company. It remained the Osgood Company until it was acquired by the Marion Power Shovel company in 1954.
sale is for one. Sell all 10 for $50 if you contact me direct.
