Rare Faberge Renaissance Egg #20/35 by Vivian Alexander The Forbes Collection:
$25000.00

VIVIAN ALEXANDER RENAISSANCE EGG

In 1998, Vivian Alexander, the foremost Faberge-style artists in America, joined forces with the Malcolm Forbes Family, renowned for its publishing assets and incredible collections of world-class objets d’art, especially its collections of Peter Carl Faberge creations, which were one of the largest collections in the world. Of the numerous Imperial Easter Eggs and other objets created by Faberge for the last two Russian tsars and their families, the Forbes Collection contained some of the most beautiful and valuable items created by Faberge, including: Imperial Lillies of the Valley Egg, Imperial Coronation Egg, Imperial Chanticleer Egg Clock, Duchess of Marlborough Egg Clock, and Imperial 1894 Renaissance Egg

In 2001, Vivian Alexander and Forbes introduced its newest objet d’luxe , the Renaissance Egg, which was inspired by the 1894 Imperial Easter Egg given to Empress Marie Feodorovna by her husband, Tsar Alexander III. Vivian Alexander’s Renaissance Egg is created with the same attention to detail as was given by Peter Carl Faberge to his designs. Faberge carefully crafted this 1894 Egg, modeling it after an 18th century casket by Le Roy, now in the “Green Vault” of Dresden. Faberge recreated the jeweled casket with white agate stone, diamonds, rubies, and jewel-toned enamels.

Vivian Alexander’s Renaissance Egg features an ovoid-shaped casket of recreated translucent white agate stone draped with a lattice of white sapphires and rubies in settings of gold-plated silver. Thirteen old world rose-cut diamonds encrust the platinum clasp. Sapphire, ruby and emerald-colored enamels accent the jeweled design. Classical lion heads clenching golden loops in their teeth complete this spectacular creation.

The nature and whereabouts of the surprise Faberge created for Marie’s Egg remain a mystery, so Vivian Alexander has recreated a surprise for the collector – a beautiful portrait frame styled after the ornately detailed and enameled base of the Imperial Renaissance Egg.

A special wooden casket with black velvet lining was created for each Egg. A limited edition of thirty-five were created, each selling for $25,000. These rarely come up for sale, in fact this is only the second time one of these eggs has shown up for sale since its release.

Vivian Alexander was founded in 1991, by combining Mother Nature’s resources with artistic talent and ingenuity, Vivian Alexander created the “egg purse,” an art prized by collectors, investors, and fashion-forward individuals. Inspired by the works of Imperial Russian goldsmith and jeweler, Peter Carl Faberge, Vivian Alexander’s evening bags, or minaudieres, are hand-crafted from infertile rhea eggs. The average size of the minaudieres is approximately seven inches tall and four and one half inches in diameter. Vivian Alexander has adapted the en plein technique of enameling which yields rich, translucent colors. The enameled and jeweled designs incorporate the finest Austrian crystals and exquisite cabochon gemstones, and each individual minaudiere is numbered and hand-signed.
