Rare Bing & Grøndahl Model 2061 English Springer Spaniel with Mallard – Designed by Lauritz Jensen, High-Gloss Danish Porcelain, Rubin Collection
Seller’s Description
A rare and beautifully modeled sporting subject from Bing & Grøndahl. This porcelain figurine (model 2061), designed by the noted Danish sculptor Lauritz Jensen, captures an English Springer Spaniel in a poised standing stance, gently carrying a mallard duck in its mouth. The dog is rendered with a luminous white ground broken by charcoal-gray patches and delicate ticking along the legs, while the retrieved bird is finely detailed in soft browns and grays. The high-gloss glaze gives the piece a rich, reflective depth that emphasizes the sculpted fur and expressive face.
Produced by the celebrated Copenhagen factory, the figurine is fully marked on the underside of the paws with the green circular B&G stamp, a blue underglaze B&G mark, and the hand-painted model number 2061 above the artist’s initials. A period paper label notes “Bought 1970,” and a Rubin Collection sticker remains, documenting later ownership of this hard-to-find model.
Condition is excellent: the glaze is bright and unbroken, the modeling is crisp, and the piece shows only the lightest signs of careful display. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
Dimensions: approximately 10” L × 3” W × 5¾” H
Weight: about 1 lb 7 oz
A distinguished example of mid-century Danish porcelain sculpture—elegant, sporting, and quietly rare. Ideal for a collector of Bing & Grøndahl animal figures or for anyone who appreciates finely modeled sporting art.
