Unusual 1969 South Korean Presentation Set – Possible Government Official Association
Offered is a vintage Korean presentation set dated August 15, 1969, housed in its original fitted presentation case. The Korean inscription appears to identify Lee Seung-taek, who served as South Korea’s Labor Commissioner during this period and later became Governor of Jeju Province.
August 15 is South Korea’s National Liberation Day, adding potential historical interest to the date.
The handwritten Korean inscription inside the lid appears to read:
1969. 8. 15
노동청장 이승택
“Labor Commissioner Lee Seung-taek”
Lee Seung-taek (이승택 / 李昇澤) served as Commissioner of South Korea’s Labor Administration during this period and later served as Governor of Jeju Province. The date, August 15, is also significant in South Korea as Gwangbokjeol (National Liberation Day).
This appears to be a presentation or commemorative item associated with Lee Seung-taek’s tenure as Labor Commissioner. However, the provenance and original circumstances surrounding this particular item have NOT been independently verified. I do not have documentation identifying the original recipient or establishing the specific occasion for which the set was presented. Buyers should therefore make their own determination regarding its history and significance.
The metal composition has not been tested, and I am not representing the pieces as sterling or solid silver. No definitive precious-metal hallmark has been identified.
The set shows age and use, including scratching, surface wear and wear to the presentation case, as visible in the photographs. Please review all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
An intriguing piece of 1960s South Korean political, governmental and labor history, and potentially of interest to collectors of Korean antiques, government memorabilia, Asian historical artifacts and diplomatic/presentation pieces.
Important: Although the inscription and historical references suggest a connection to a Korean government official, the item’s provenance, original recipient, and presentation circumstances have not been independently verified. Metal composition is also untested. Sold as pictured and described. No certificate of authenticity or additional provenance accompanies the item.
