This piece features a highly collectible Jansenist-influenced corpus, characterized by Christ’s arms being carved in a distinct, slightly upward-pointing V-shape posture—a theological design hallmark synonymous with early-to-mid 1700s Jansenist art.At the base of the cross rests a beautiful, intact carved bone skull and crossbones (Memento Mori), symbolically representing the skull of Adam at Golgotha.The anatomical rendering of the bone corpus is of exceptional quality, showing fine antique detail in the ribcage, loincloth, and crown of thorns. The rosewood cross retains a beautiful, deep, age-earned rich patina that contrasts sharply against the mellowed, natural yellowing of the antique bone.Condition Report:

• Bone Elements: Complete and exceptionally fully intact. Unusually for a piece of this period, there are no missing fingers, no missing toes, and no chips to the corpus or the skull.
• Reverse/Structure: The wood and bone mountings are structurally sound. There is a single missing historical fixing/mount on the reverse side of the wood, which is entirely expected for an object of this vintage. This minor historical wear is completely hidden when displayed on a wall and does not affect the front presentation or structural integrity.
