Rare and historically significant 1860s occupational CDV portrait of an identified early American tradesman. Per both the 1860 and 1870 censuses of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, Jacob Allamon is listed as a wagon maker. In the photo, he is holding the tools of his trade, a hatchet/axe as well as a drawknife.
What is also remarkable is that Jacob was born in 1784 and was working at the age of 76 for the 1860 census and 86 at the 1870 census. He would go on to live to the age of 88. This photo was likely taken between those two censuses. So he is likely late 70s or early 80s in this photo.
This also puts him in a pretty small group of people born in the 1700s and photographed on a CDV.
This photo does not have a listed photographer nor location, but it is very likely that this was in Pennsylvania.
