Vintage postcard featuring RPPC Palmer House Chicago Porters Early Auto Teddy Bear Hood OrnamentOriginal real photo postcard showing a remarkable early automobile posed with a group of Palmer House hotel porters in Chicago, Illinois. Several of the men wear hotel uniforms, and “PORTER” can be seen on at least one cap.
An especially unusual detail is the small teddy bear perched on the automobile, appearing almost like an early hood ornament or automobile mascot.
The automobile features enormous spoked wheels, a side-mounted spare tire and an unusually low-slung body. The design bears similarities to early American Underslung automobiles, although the exact make and model have not been confirmed.
The back is handwritten “Palmer House Chicago” and includes a reference to the porters and their “first ride.” VELOX divided-back real photo postcard.
A wonderful early motoring image combining Chicago history, Palmer House hotel history, uniformed hotel porters, a Brass Era automobile and an unusual teddy bear automobile mascot.
Great collectible for local history, architecture, genealogy, or postcard enthusiasts.
