An unusual vintage real photo postcard showing eight fish suspended in a row outdoors, with snow-covered ground, houses, and bare trees in the background. The fish vary considerably in size, with one particularly large specimen near the center creating a striking focal point.
The catch is displayed on a line beneath a horizontal wooden support, allowing the individual fish to stand out against the pale winter surroundings. Their elongated bodies, patterned sides, fins, and open mouths provide plenty of visual detail. No definitive species identification is offered.
The photograph has warm sepia tones and captures the familiar tradition of photographing a successful fishing catch. Rather than showing an angler holding a single fish, this image records the entire display, with the residential setting adding an everyday backdrop. Snow on the ground gives the scene additional seasonal interest, although the actual fishing location and method are not recorded.
The reverse bears the handwritten notation “T. M. Holland fish,” providing a direct connection between the Holland name and the pictured catch.
According to a former identifying sticker reported by the owner, the card was associated with Thomas Holland, a jeweler in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, until 1955. This information is included as a prior collector’s attribution. The postcard itself does not identify Honesdale, spell out Thomas Holland’s full name, mention his occupation, or provide a photograph date. The reference to 1955 should therefore not be interpreted as the date this image was taken.
The card has a divided back with printed correspondence and address sections and an AZO stamp box. It has not been postally used: there is no recipient address, postage stamp, or cancellation. The brief Holland notation is the only handwritten identification visible on the reverse.
An appealing addition to collections of fishing photography, fish-catch displays, sporting memorabilia, winter scenes, and real photo postcards. The handwritten Holland identification and attributed Honesdale connection also offer a possible starting point for local-history research.
